The Book of Melanin is committed to promoting a community of melanated excellence that is equipped with an astonishing repertoire of cultural knowledge and financial literacy. Our mission is to honor our ancestors by communicating the truth, that is our past, break free from generational curses, such as financial bondage, and celebrate our diversity, from food to travel to businesses. While doing so all in one central location.

Our Story

The Book of Melanin was founded in 2021 by Imani Frederick, in an effort to create a safe space for interested individuals to uncover the truth about their history, as well as realize their potential to achieve greatness in this world.

With a Jamaican born mother and Trinidadian born father, Imani was always taught the importance of learning about her history, understanding the challenges she may face as an African American woman, and appreciating the cultures of a variety of different ethnicities. She quickly recognized that the classroom would not teach her everything she needed to know about life and she enjoyed doing research on her own. However, through her research she found that her history, as well as cultural interests, was broken up and sprinkled throughout thousands of websites. Nonetheless, she continued on with her research into things she enjoyed such as history, finance, shopping, food, travel, etc. and she quickly became the subject matter expert on this topics among her family members and friends.

While she appreciated the respect she received from her peers, she always wondered how awesome would it be to help people worldwide gain access to such knowledge from a central location?! As Imani did research to answer this very question, she unintentionally gave birth to the Book of Melanin. A one stop shop for all things melanin.
